Biography:

“Alfa Matrix has been using the catch line "Electronic Music with Attitude" as their main label slogan for years. Their recent signing from Australia, AVARICE IN AUDIO, are a band that truly embrace the Alfa Matrix mantra, and show expertise in their craft with a unique blend of Synth pop/EDM and Dark Electro styling. Coming into their own on the successful lead single "Frostbite" released a few months earlier, the full length debut is here in the form of "Shine & Burn", a mixture of melodic trance and emotional aggression sure to set the world on fire: "Stars exist to Shine & Burn"

Gerry - The Sleaze & Jade The Siren

Cold soundscapes, decadent baselines, romantic leads and a beauty and beast style vocal dichotomy between members Jade Pegg & Gerry Hawkins. Gerry's screaming and frantic vocals directly contrast with Jade's ethereal operatic vocal style, transforming the songs almost into an emotional war of attrition. The lyrics from Gerry are schizophrenic in delivery and subject, rushing from heartbreak to addiction, to self-imposed punishment and struggling with celebrity. Jade's delivery comes with the touch of promise, of hope for finer things in the future. Songs like "The Cassandra Complex", "Bleed As One" & "Punished" show what the two are capable of, delivering a new style hybrid of genres together to make something catchy, thought provoking and danceable.

Combined with extra collaborations with maverick dark electro producers ASCENSION EX, future pop act XP8, futuristic artist REDUX and electro-rock darlings MiXE1, Jade & Gerry show off their versatility and genre slicing styles with surgical precision!”

Feed The Addiction (Feat. Ascension EX)

Blistering conquest! The whispered vocal seething and stark pulsating keyboard rhythms are intense! The haunting female vocal from Jade give the track a certain depth that captures the attention. Great hooks lavish the ears and reward the senses and thus spurring you on to listen further! - Awesome!

The Cassandra Complex

The bubbling and sonic array of effects again are haunting but this time hold an urgency. It is seriously engaging, fuelled with superb rhythms that burrow into the ears and fester. The gnawing vocal from Gerry is tumultuous while Jade’s lilting tones add depth – another interesting composition.

Bleed As One

This has an even further creative flourish with pulsating rhythm that hurriedly marks its territory while the beats reward the senses. Together this composition strides toward a pleasing goal!

Sleepwalking Societies V.2014 (Feat Redux)

A more stark ride through its endeavours, however those choppy little synth notes burn into your psyche with mesmerising effect! It is a haunting melodic track that shares a pounding assault and again vocally re charges the batteries.

Punished

The samples add to the tracks madness as the keyboard go all out offering a stabbing coaxing of rhythmic entrapment. The harsh vocal edge pulverises with harsh cruelty that slices through the aural with utter ease, while Jade’s sultry tones keep the composition balanced.

Beyond My Control

This track results in happiness! It holds a slower tempo that is showered in a burning causticity with riveting consequences. It is certainly an imaginative surprise as it unveils its mysterious rhythms and poignant lyrics to a seductive embrace.

Frostbite

Stumpy synth notes ring out in an array of haunting melody and captures an urgent flavour yet again. The slabs of emotive beauty are sensational and interesting. The beats swiftly stomp while the jagged infusion of voice control is simply striking!

Your Fool

It is amazing how AiA can create such unusual sounds with keyboard alone. This leaves a distinct mark for ingenuity. Jade’s voice is less haunting here and takes on a more robotic feel. The rapturous rhythms fold exquisitely and energetically into the ears allowing the listener to enjoy a gripping bait.

Heartless Disaster (Feat. XP8)

A more sturdy approach is this one that instantly grabs the aural and consumes with a serious undertone. It has a greedy appetite for sure! It holds a certain buoyancy that skims across its far reaching landscape of bubbling rhythms.

China White

This has an oriental flavour with samples and whispered gnawing vocal edge. It scorches with a ‘shine and burn’ effect, as it rips through the audial with powerful embrace. Expanding into a compelling and haunting intervention with eerie ambiance.

Lacklustre

The festering melodic sway of notes congeal with the heavy caustic trait of malevolent male vocal and with the haunting ambient flare of female lilt. Perfectly toned and potent with a gnawing and teasing rhythm to back it up.

Behind Your Mask (Feat. MiXE1)

A monocular tone steadily works its way to the forefront on this haunting and passionate track. Caked in ambiance and powerful sampled voices. Gerry’s flexible vocals sound less harsh and more monotone but showing the bands diversity.

Summary:

Drenched in unpredictable tones and laced with flexible vocal edge from both members this album is awash with rich rewards.

From haunting and eerie to down-right seething and edgy this album definitely has the ‘Shine and Burn’ factor.

It isn’t an all-out rampage more a harvested crop of tracks that engage and intimidate. It flirts with passion and holds a seductive element of creativity. Evolving on a slow burner with a temptation one would find hard pushed to resist!

It can be warm but in a hostile, almost aloof way that encourages the listener to listen further. Drifting in and out of haunting to inescapable darkness with scathing demonic vocals and pulsating rhythms that gnaw and seduce on listening and tempered with eerie ambiance.

Its persuasiveness is always present and lifts the spirit so there is a lot to enjoy on this album and well worth the listen!
