Genre: Film Music and Cinematic Opera

Biography:

"I used to look at the world with blue eyes, I used to love with an open heart but I was naive, the world needed to show itself to me. I got angry for my weakness and angry with the world. In the darkest swirls of my mind I got stronger and meaner and started to change. I worked with my fear and I became DARK SARAH. I´m not bitter I´m just bitter sweet."

- Dark Sarah-

This certainly has not been an easy album to review.  Simply because of the style in which it was produced. The constantly evolving landscapes are painted with dramatic tones which in turn try to manipulate the senses and to a certain degree they do, but not in the way you might expect.

Obviously, being cinematic and film laden each track does tell its own story, but like with every book, people need to be drawn into it, and there isn’t a lot to draw yourself into on this album.

------------------------------------------------

“It isn’t an album you can throw into the CD player and feed off its frenzy, growling into a makeshift microphone and giving the neighbours hell!  It is very sophisticated and although sung and played to the band’s impressive best, it cannot in any way shape or form be labelled a ‘metal’ album except in parts – Check out ‘Hunting the Dreamer!"

------------------------------------------------

There are too many embellished plots, too much confusion and for me not enough metal to make this album worth owning.

It isn’t to be cruel that I have said those things either, as it does possess a dramatic quality and does have its high points, be them in small amounts, but even with all its drama and frills it doesn’t quite scratch the itch, being too much in favour of opera and that is something that I have to admit, I probably never will truly get the hang of.

If you like cinematic opera themed albums then you will love this in its entirety with all its ethereal surprises and spiritual revelations, but if you are like me, then you need something to bite on to fully awaken the senses and shroud them in a metal embrace!

There is only thing I can think of for this band to truly hit the heights, and that is for them to draft in another vocalist, who spews out guttural secretions that would blend perfectly into Dark Sarah’s world and throw it into a bit of chaos, so adding another dimension into the frame.

That way this album would shine like a beacon for me, to have two extreme opposites would give the band a highly enjoyable facet to work on and open new and exciting avenues, whereby it just seems to run in never ending circles.

7/10
