Now here is something that is quirky, catchy and definitely moreish! A lot of attention to detail has been crafted on this demo by Furian who captured my heart and ears at the Halloween Extravaganza at the Zanzibar last Friday.

Furian’s front man Dan Martin Hall informed me that the band have only been together since June/July 2014 with this line-up and yet the quality of the music just doesn’t sound like it comes from a newly formed band. These guys are just full of surprises!

Now I Know

It is easy to sink into the irresistible depths of this fresh sounding and compelling track, even more so after hearing it performed live. It is one of those tracks that has you instantaneously reaching for the replay button again and again. The drumming is punchy and rhythmic while the clean vocal breaks in between to reveal a harsher more brutal side and this is where Furian spark to life. It has the pull and melodic draw and still sounds brutish – winner!  So it’s like a double edged sword and cuts just as deep! I could never get sick of listening to this for sure, its powerful flanks of sonically charged guitar and raucous bass hooks is an enthralling encounter! It grazes the ears and provokes a raw emotion with unbridled passion. OK just one more listen!!!

Gone

Opens with a few quirky gurgling noises and then ignites into a melodic guise of vibrant and feisty appeal. The harshness of the vocal immediately stamping its mark on the proceedings, while the surrounding musical landscape paints a colourful muse of dramatic wash that is again full of imagination and of course aggression but done in an unexpected way. The rhythmic enticements flourish in an all-out sizzling and commanding embrace!

Not many demos have video’s on them either so it is clearly a bonus to get one, and one that is strange and wacky to boot – even better!

Now I Know Video

The video is an interesting one – a lot of black magic, well magic done in the dark is black magic isn’t it? The masks, cloaks, and candles dominate to a certain degree and one bit of nudity – although this bit is of no interest to me whatsoever! The pentagram represents the guitar apparently – good move as without the guitars there would be no metal! It looks like it has been filmed in an old water tank where Furian’s magic show takes place – however I am just happy to hear the track again!

Summary:

There is no fancy cover on this demo, just the information needed to unite fans with the band on the usual networking sites and their logo printed on the back of a plain piece of paper, however what is on this little disc far outweighs the need for such luxuries as a cover, although it does have one, but just not on these demo’s which were given out as keepsakes for the band’s last gig, and hand on heart I can say that a) I am glad I got one and b) also glad I got the chance to witness the band live.

Furian look nothing like they sound or you think they are going to sound like so it is a pleasant surprise when you get the chance to peel off the outer layer and see what is lurking underneath – (and I do NOT mean that in any sexual way either) before anyone comments! – It is strictly for the musical content – it fair on takes your breath away but still gives you nice melodic hooks to get your teeth into.

Not many demos have video’s on them either so it is clearly a bonus to get one, and one that is strange and wacky to boot – even better!

Well by the time the evening is out this little disc will resemble a lace curtain! I have literally lost count now of how many times I have played this, done air guitar to it, sang to it and played imaginary drums to it, so if that doesn’t tell you of its addictive qualities nothing will!

Right off to play this again...

10/10
